Indian equity markets closed higher on Monday, supported by gains in banking, auto, and oil & gas stocks. The NSE Nifty 50 advanced 1.32%, while the BSE Sensex climbed 1.42% by the end of the session.
Among the top gainers on the Nifty 50 was Eicher Motors Ltd., which surged 6.45%, or 450.50 points, to settle at 7,432.00. Adani Enterprises Ltd gained 4.77%, adding 129.70 points to close at 2,847.00, while Bajaj Finance Ltd rose 2.99%, or 27.40 points, ending the day at 943.95.
On the losing side, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd declined 1.72%, or 5.00 points, to 285.00. Hindalco Industries Ltd. slipped 0.96%, or 10.60 points, to close at 1,098.60, while Nestle India Ltd fell 0.56%, or 8.00 points, to 1,415.10.
On the BSE Sensex 30, Bajaj Finance Ltd emerged as one of the strongest performers, rising 2.98% to 943.65. HDFC Bank Ltd gained 2.82% to finish at 788.00, while Eternal Ltd added 2.71% to close at 248.50. Meanwhile, the weakest Sensex performers included Infosys Ltd, which edged down 0.48% to 1,168.80, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., which lost 0.40% to settle at 2,308.05, and Nestle India Ltd, which slipped 0.26% to 1,419.50 at the close.
Market breadth remained positive, with advancing shares outnumbering decliners by 1,733 to 815 on the Bombay Stock Exchange, while 51 stocks remained unchanged. On the National Stock Exchange, 2,563 stocks advanced, 1,482 declined, and 200 ended flat.
