If reports are to be believed, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan will share screen space in Mani Ratnam’s upcoming project. The film will be a periodic drama and all the Aishwarya Rai Bachchan fans, here is a piece of news for you’ll that might instantly bring a smile on your face. Yes, according to reports in some media websites, Aishwarya Rai has signed Mani Ratnam’s next film. The diva has given the final nod to her first director Mani Ratnam for featuring in his film. The periodic drama will be an adaption of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel Ponniyin Selvan (The son of Ponni).

It’s a big-budget historical drama, which is being planned on the lines of the Baahubali franchise. It’s likely to be a bilingual project and star several big stars from the south Indian film industry. Mani Ratnam had reportedly approached his muse Aishwarya for the female lead and she signed on the spot. While Mani Ratnam will make an announcement of the film around the festival of Pongal, which falls on January 14, reports are rife that the director is keen on getting Amitabh Bachchan on board and although Mani Ratnam has narrated the story to Big B, the latter is yet to confirm.

While the period drama narrates the story of Arulmozhivarman, who was crowned as Rajaraja Chola I during the 10th and 11th century, this film will have an ensemble cast and according to reports, “The book has five volumes, but the makers are planning to conceptualize it as three installments on screen and Mani has narrated the script to Amitji. He is taking his time to decide whether he would like to do it. A confirmation from his end is yet to come but he has liked the idea.”

If Big B gives a nod, it will be interesting to watch Aishwarya and Amitabh on-screen together, isn’t it? For all those who don’t know, Aishwarya and Amitabh Bachchan were last seen 11 years before in the 2008 film Sarkar Raj. On the work front, Aishwarya had recently starred in Atul Manjrekar’s Fanney Khan opposite Anil Kapoor and Rajkumar Rao.
