Assam: Amid Raging COVID Pandemic, Counting Of Votes Begin

Counting of votes for 126 assembly seats spread across the state of Assam has begun at 8:00 AM today, i.e. on Sunday, May 2. All arrangements have been put in place by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to conduct the counting process smoothly amid the world’s worst outbreak of the COVID pandemic. Strong security measures have been taken to ensure smooth conduct of the counting process.

As many as 946 candidates had contested in the Assam Assembly Elections 2021 out of which 872 were male and 74 were female candidates. More than 2.33 Crore people exercised their votes at 33,530 polling stations across the state of Assam.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has set up 279 EVM Counting Hall and 52 Postal Ballot counting hall to conduct the counting process in the state. In Guwahati, the counting is being conducted at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, where the strong rooms are present.

Moreover, all COVID protocols issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) have to be followed by anyone entering the counting hall. Face Shields, Masks, Sanitizers, and PPE Kits have been made available in the counting hall.
