Attorney General KK Venugopal re-examined his refusal in order to initiate proceedings of contempt against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy.

This has happened for the second time with respect to the allegations against the Supreme Court judge.

On November 2, Venugopal turned down the permission to Advocate Ashwini Upadhyay in order to initiate contempt proceedings in the matter.

However, the Attorney General, said, “His refusal to give consent cannot stop Upadhyay from approaching the court. It can begin suo motu in the  proceedings of contempt against the Chief Minister.”

On October 6, Reddy wrote a letter to Chief Justice of India SA Bobde about Justice NV Ramana, a senior judge of the Supreme Court.

In the letter, he stated that he was working against the elected government of the state after his orders to expedite pending prosecution against legislators from the Chief Minister’s YSR Congress.

Reddy claimed that the senior judge was acting on behalf of his opposition, former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party.

Apart from this he also accused Justice Ramana of colluding with High Court judges. They were acting at his behest, he added.

Upadhyay, the petitioner in the case, in which Justice Ramana’s orders came, had called for contempt proceedings against the Chief Minister.

Venugopal said, “Prima facie timing of the Chief Minister’s letter to the Chief Justice of India has been made public for justice of India. This was a suspect in the backdrop of Justice Ramana’s orders in September. This was on the plea to carry out the trials quickly against sitting and former lawmakers, including Jagan Mohan Reddy.
