After Squadron band guitarist’s death, his legacy lives on forever in the Indian rock scene

After Squadron guitarist O.Temsu Imsong's death, the band lives on by paying tribute to his legacy.

Nagaland’s oldest surviving Rock band Squadron guitarist O.Temsu Imsong breathed his last on 17 June at 6:50 pm O.Temsu Imsong, 53, was battling cancer and was undergoing treatment at the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research, CIHSR Dimapur. He left behind 3 children, 2 sons and 1 daughter along with his wife.

O. Temsu Imsong was a self-taught musician who started playing the guitar at a very young age. His band members also shared a message saying, “Late O. Temsu Imsong was an integral part of our band and though he left us we as SQUADRON will continue his legacy, and the music we played together will always have an impact on us. He will be deeply missed”.

Squadron, One of the biggest rock-metal bands to come out from the 90’s was formed in 1990 with Wati Imchen on vocals, Lanu Aier on bass, Bendang Aier and Temsu Imsong on guitars and Mar Tzudir on drums.

They won the All Nagaland Beat Contest in 1994, 2nd runners up of the Northeast Beat Contest Aizawl in 1996. Their concert count is 400 and more with performances all over India. They have never disbanded despite the members venturing into other professions.

However, after a brief lapse, the band came back with an All Nagaland Mega Tour in the year 2008 and 2009 under the theme Save a Life. The band has worked on songs such as Fly By Night, Victim of death, Cry Citizens Cry, My Girl and many more.. However, the band has no official releases.

Late Imsong was also part of famous bands like Abiogenesis, Dazzle Channel, Slit Image to name a few. As the people of the state and the musicians in particular mourn the loss, many opined that Mokokchung has lost a great musician, a mentor, a giant figure and a fun loving person.
