Chris Wallace Struck A Balancing Chord Amidst A Night OF Chaotic Circus

By Sathish Mon Updated - October 2, 2020

Opinion: Riding on his legacy, Wallace was all set to host the first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden on Wednesday night. Was he going to repeat the magical spell he had as a moderator back in 2016? However, it turned out to be the unrespectable, not only for the audience and the viewers across the world but for Chris Wallace himself. Coming from a family of journalistic heritage, for someone who had the rare opportunity to interview Russian president, Vladimir Putin, certainly, he was expected to recreate the magical night again.

The debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden began with the customary opening introduction by Wallace. But things began to unfurl a different battleground making Wallace being stretching out of his modesty to plead a towering and unwavering Trump. He sounded more of a headmaster pleading a taunting pupil at occasions rather than being a tactful moderator hosting a debate.

Although at one point he had a rebounding Trump saying ‘I am debating you and him, I am not surprised’. Despite Wallace’s repeated pleading, Trump was unstoppable but Biden, though seemed much composed wasn’t giving the least hint of backing down to pin a counter-argument.

Wallace, with all his meticulous yet an instructive tone, did all he can to ease off the arguments by constantly pleading to back down or give a chance to the other to speak and even reminded them to stick to the topics they were discussing and the others in the next segment.

Amidst the chaos of arguments between Biden and Trump, he did manage to keep the speakers in check in terms of time allotment and skillfully reminded them with raising another question or intervening between the unstoppable argument and trying to give the chance to the other to speak.

At the same time, Wallace’s questions were quite the most needed topics that were of core national interest and what the Americans expected and were looking forward to. Although a chaotic night that wasn’t least expected, Wallace struck a chord in the midst of a stormy unwavering historic night.
