PM Modi May Travel To China, Trump’s Likely To Visit India What’s Waiting For 2025 Diplomatic Calendar

India’s diplomatic agenda for 2025 is shaping up with high-profile visits and key summits. With the New Year rolling in, upcoming year will witness a series of plans and events. The New Year is expected to begin with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam’s visit around the mid-January. This marks the beginning of a series of high-profile visits. Just like this the diplomatic calendar for India in 2025 is filled with significant events.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to visit the US during this week. During this meeting he will meet both the outgoing Biden administration and the incoming Trump team as well. Jaishankar is likely to discuss high-level meetings after Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20 and push for an early date for Trump’s visit to India for the upcoming Quad Summit. Similarly Prime Minister Narendra Modi is planning several key trips. This includes visit to France in February and another in Japan for the annual summit.

The Quad Summit comprises Australia, India, Japan, and the US. This Summit will focus on significant issues, especially with Trump’s shift in policies on health and climate. While on the other hand Prime Minister Narendra Modi may also travel to the US to meet Trump after his inauguration.

India will also host several important summits, including the annual summit with Russia. This Summit will mark President Vladimir Putin’s visit New Delhi as well. This would be his first visit since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began. Whereas other key meetings will take place during the BRICS summit in Brazil in July. While the SCO summit in China is likely to take place in late August or September.

PM Modi To Visit South Africa For  G20 Summit

The upcoming year will also see Modi potentially traveling to China for the SCO summit. This meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping is highly anticipated as the situation at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) normalizes. India’s summit with the European Union is also on the calendar, with several European leaders expected to visit New Delhi. The 2025 diplomatic calendar also includes the visits of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto for the Republic Day celebrations, and possibly Chilean President Gabriel Boric in March or April.

In February, Prime Minister Modi is likely to visit France and Japan for annual summits. Later, the G20 summit is going to take place in South Africa and the ASEAN summit in Malaysia, where PM Modi is expected to participate. Additionally, India will host the next edition of the India-EU summit, with several European leaders expected to visit. Towards the latter half of 2025 PM Modi may travel to South Africa for the G20 summit and to Malaysia for the ASEAN summit. These meetings will further solidify India’s global engagements on the international stage. With all these international meetings line up.  India’s diplomatic activity during 2025 promises to be busy and high-profile one.
