Former CEO of global beverage giant PepsiCo, Indra Nooyi is currently in talks to become the new World Bank president, according to reports in a leading daily in America. The India-born Nooyi, who had served as PepsiCo’s chief for 12 long years, resigned from the post in August last year and is now in consideration for the post to become Kim’s successor. There is a possibility that the Trump administration is likely to choose Nooyi to head the position.
President Donald Trump’s eldest daughter Ivanka Trump, who is also in the selection committee has given hint that Nooyi is on their list. Ivanka Trump, took to her Twitter account to send out a tweet in favor of Indra Nooyi. She wrote, that Ms Nooyi is a ‘mentor + inspiration’ to many including her and that she is grateful for her friendship. Check out the tweet here.
The great @IndraNooyi is stepping down as PepsiCo CEO, after 12 yrs.
Indra, you are a mentor + inspiration to so many, myself included. I am deeply grateful for your friendship. Thank you for your passionate engagement on issues that benefit the people of this country, and beyond— Ivanka Trump (@IvankaTrump) August 7, 2018
Meanwhile, the World Bank’s current president Jim Yong Kim has urged to resign from his post earlier this month and also revealed the reason for him stepping down from the prestigious position. Kim said that he wants to step down from his post to join a private infrastructure investment firm in February this year. Kim’s unexpected call for stepping down as World Bank’s president came almost three years before the end of his term in the office. Moreover, reports say that it is still unclear if Indra Nooyi would accept Trump administrations decision if she is nominated as the next president of the World Bank.
