Veteran filmmaker, Johnny Bakshi died on Saturday in a hospital in Mumbai’s Juhu after complaining of cardiac arrest at the age of 83. Producer, Amit Khanna confirmed the demise of producer-director on his unverified Twitter account. Reportedly, Bakshi was admitted to Arogya Nidhi hospital in suburban of Juhu on Friday morning after he complained of breathlessness. He was tested for coronavirus which came out negative.
Producer Amit Khanna confirmed the news to media outlets too. He said that Johnny was taken to the hospital as he complained of breathlessness. He was diagnosed with pneumonia and was also tested for COVID-19. He added that he passed away early morning today, even before his reports could come in.
Besides Amit, Bakshi’s daughter, Priya too informed about his father’s demise to PTI. She too confirmed that his father complained of breathlessness and therefore he was hospitalized. She added that he was put on a ventilator. The COVID-19 test was conducted and he tested negative for it. He passed away between 1.30-2 AM due to cardiac arrest.

Reportedly, the last rites of Johnny Bakshi were performed on Saturday at a crematorium in Mumbai. The rites were performed in the presence of the family members. Bakshi is survived by sons Brando, Kennedy, Bradman and daughter Priya.
On his work front, over his four decades of journey, he worked as a producer consistently, giving films such as Manzilein Aur Bhi Hain (1974), Raavan (1984) and Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee (1993). Apart from that, he had also directed two films Daku Aur Police (1992) and Khudai (1994) starring Rajesh Khanna in the lead.
Many from B-town paid tribute to the filmmaker. Actor, Anupam Kher while remembering Bakshi tweeted on his offical Twitter handle. He was remembered as a motivator. His laughter was so infectious that made everyone laughs. Also, filmmaker Kunal Kolhi also condoled Bakshi’s death and said he was a sweet helpful person.
