A three-year-old girl in Taiwan was caught up in the strings of a kite and lifted high into the air in front of horrified onlookers before being rescued unharmed.
The unidentified girl was taking part in a kite festival on Sunday in the seaside town of Nanliao when she became entangled in a giant, long-tailed orange kite and was hoisted off the ground by several metres.
Video shot at the scene showed her twisting several times above a crowd of adults who struggled to pull the kite back to earth.News reports said the girl was frightened but suffered no physical injuries.

Following the incident the mayor of Hsinchu city, Lin Chih-chien, issued a statement and public apology. Lin said authorities immediately suspended all on-site activities to ensure the safety of the public in the high winds, and that municipal authorities had accompanied the family to hospital, where the young girl was cleared of injuries except some scratches to her neck.
“The municipal government team expresses its deepest apology to the party concerned and the public. We will review the incident to avoid such an accident from happening again. We will also investigate responsibility and conduct an in-depth review.”
The wind at the festival on Sunday afternoon was unusually strong, reaching a 7 on the Beaufort Scale — meaning wind speeds ranged from 32 to 38 miles per hour (50 to 61 kilometers per hour), according to CNA. That’s just one tier below one tier below gale-level winds on the scale.
