The operation took place on Wednesday, under the supervision of an Executive Magistrate. Drug Control Measures

The Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh, lauded the operation, calling it an important step in the state’s “War on Drugs.” He shared on social media that the destroyed poppy fields were set to yield about 12 kilograms of opium. The destruction of these fields is crucial in preventing the spread of narcotics in the region. Although no arrests were made during the operation, an FIR has been filed. Authorities are actively working to track down the individuals responsible for the illicit cultivation.

The authorities also used “Roundup Herbicides” to spray and eradicate any remaining poppy plants. This step ensures that no traces of the illegal crop remain, further deterring its cultivation in the region.

Significant Progress In War On Drugs

Since 2017, the state government has destroyed around 15,500 acres of illegal poppy fields in multiple districts. This is part of an ongoing strategy to break the drug trade and its detrimental effects on the local communities. Manipur’s efforts have gained national attention, as the state continues its vigorous fight against illegal drugs.

The destruction of poppy crops not only cuts off the supply of opium but also sends a strong message to drug traffickers and farmers engaged in illegal cultivation. Authorities remain committed to preventing the rise of illicit drug trade and promoting a healthier society in the state.

The state government’s resolve to take strict action against poppy cultivation is stronger than ever, with new operations like this continuing to play a key role in the fight against drugs.
