Homen Borgohain: Eminent Journalist, Assamese Litterateur Dies After Heart Attack

Homen Borgohain, a veteran journalist of Assam and eminent litterateur is no more. The “Pita Putra” writer died on May 12. He was 88.

Borgohain had also tested positive for COVID-19 earlier, however, his COVID test results came negative on May 7. He was later discharged from the GNRC hospital.

Homen Borgohain was the editor-in-chief of the Assamese newspaper ‘Niyomiya Barta’. He was born on December 7, 1932. The veteran journalist had also donned the hat of an Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer for a brief period. He won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1978.

Homen Borgohain: Cause of Death

Homen Borgohain was rushed to Guwahati’s GNRC after he suffered a heart attack and suddenly collapsed on the floor in the wee hours Wednesday morning. The Assamese writer breathed his last at 6:58 AM in Guwahati’s GNRC Hospital.

Twitter Reacts To Homen Borgohain’s Death

Many mourned the death of Homen Borgohain and paid tribute to the former president of Asom Sahitya Sabha through Twitter.

Sharing a photo of Homen Borgohain, renowned athlete Hima Das tweeted, “Saddened to learn about the demise of our prominent litterateur and veteran journalist of Assam Homen Borgohain sir. He was a former president of Asom Sahitya Sabha, the apex literary body of the state, and lost his battle to Covid-19. My heartfelt condolences to his family. RIP”

Another user wrote, “A big Shocking, a leading intellectual, writer and a fighter in life Homen Borgohain no more. It’s a great lose 4 D society. Person of his stature inspire thousands 2 think about different society of positivity & cinstructiveness. I pray 2 D almighty for his eternal peace.”
