A research published in the New England Journal of Medicine says Hydroxychloroquine is not the answer to cure Coronavirus.

Scientists are working day and night and under acute pressure to find out effective treatment for Covid-19 but one research shows that hydroxychloroquine drug isn’t the answer to be cured from the deadly disease.

Researchers are looking at the effectiveness of the antibiotics Azithromycin and antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine in treating Covid-19 patients as published in the New England journal of medicine (NEJM).

Patients who were hospitalized with confirmed Covid-19 were signed with standard care treatment for the virus. They are diagnosed by giving them Glucocorticoids, antibiotic agents, antiviral agents and hydroxychloroquine with 400 MG twice daily.

However, researchers have found that patients who were given hydroxychloroquine with or without Azithromycin did not improve clinical status at 15 days when compared with standard care.

But, side effects which are coming forth after taking these medicines are elevated liver enzymes and heart rhythm problems. This is more visible in the patients who are taking hydroxychloroquine alone or hydroxychloroquine with Azithromycin.

Beside this, it also affects liver problems or failure and even leads to to kidney injuries, blood and lymph disorders. As per sources, another drug named ”Favipiravir sounds to be safe and well tolerated,” says Winslow in his recent study. Nissen agrees, saying: “It’s time to stop and to step ahead by studying something through which they can help people.”

In the meantime, there are several other treatments that are beneficial to patients effected with Covid-19, according to Gonsenhauser: “Convalescent plasma, a specific component of blood donated by COVID survivors that includes the immune cells their body generated to fight the virus; dexamethasone [a medical steroid], which has been used to combat extreme inflammation for a long time and has been shown to improve outcomes; and remdesivir, a drug that limits virus replication and has been shown to decrease the time it takes to recover from COVID, but may or may not improve the risk of dying.”

He further added,” this virus is new and tricky and it demands for time and research to find effective treatment”. The science is complicated, so it wouldn’t be terribly surprising if the discoveries are limited”. He even said,” that maintain social distancing, hand hygiene and wearing mask for everyone is the best effort which everyone can follow to secure themselves”.
