On August 22 in a video update, Call Fire Information Center representative Daniel Berlant informed residents who were worried about the fire weather for the upcoming days and issued a red-flag warning saying, ‘The National Weather Service for many parts of the coastal regions of California and a fire weather watch for the parts of northern California, due to the thunderstorm systems that are coming in starting early Sunday morning,” he said.

He further continued, ”The areas under high-level threat for dry lightning are Santa Rosa down to Big Sur and down into Monterey country. These are thunderstorm systems that bring lightning and gusty winds and can have very little or no rainfall at all. It is almost similar to what we witnessed previous week when around 12,000 lightning strikes over many days that led to sparking of hundreds of fires.”

CAL representative Daniel Berlant said, “This indicates we are keeping this area under watch for next several days because this too may have a higher fire risk and can get upgraded to a red flag warning.”

He further added, “One more area to discuss is the northeastern part of California up in Modoc Country, where a red flag warning has been issued as well. So we are closely monitoring and watching the weather red flag warning being issued for starting Sunday morning and into Monday and Tuesday for dry lightning. The fire department has been put on high alert and you should follow the same.”
