236 scientists from 32 countries claim to establish evidence that Coronavirus is airborne, ask WHO to reconsider recommendation.
Scientists claim Coronavirus is airborne
In an open letter to WHO, hundreds of scientists claimed coronavirus is airborne and asked WHO to reconsider the recommendations. The scientists say they have evidence that Coronavirus can infect people exposed to smaller particles in the air.
WHO previously claimed Coronavirus spreads while an infected persons sneezes, coughs or speaks, as it spreads through small droplets expelled through the mouth or nose. WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevie said to Reuters, “We are aware of the article and are reviewing its contents with our technical experts.”
According to scientists, large droplets of the sneeze from an infected person can zoom through the air at length or by small droplets exhaled in a room can infect people when inhaled. However, according to Dr Benedetta Allegranzi, the WHO’s technical lead of infection prevention and control is not convinced yet and said, “Especially in the last couple of months, we have been stating several times that we consider airborne transmission as possible but certainly not supported by solid or even clear evidence.”
As the world awaits for a possible cure for the pandemic, every new finding asserts a new ray of hope. Only time is destined to be the healer. As of July 6, 11,593,729 people have been infected with the disease worldwide with 537,536 deaths. The United States is leading the charts with 2,985,897 cases, along with Brazil with 1,604,585 cases and India with 700,724.
