Donald Trump has suggested November’s presidential election be postponed, citing increased postal voting could lead on to fraud and inaccurate results.

In a series of tweets, Mr. Trump said “universal mail-in voting” would make November’s vote the “most inaccurate and fraudulent election in history” and a “great embarrassment to the USA.

“With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely, and safely vote???”

Since the Coronavirus pandemic began, several states have attempted to expand access to voting by mail, in an effort to prevent having to place voters and poll workers into close contact with each other.

In June, New York allowed voters to vote by post within the Democratic primary poll for the party’s presidential candidate, but there were long delays in counting the ballots and therefore the results are still unknown.

There are concerns that a lot of ballots won’t be counted because they weren’t filled in correctly or don’t have postmarks on them that show they were sent before voting officially ended.

Donald Trump can’t delay November’s presidential election without Congress, partially controlled by the Democrats, first approving the decision.

President Trump gives off an impression of being doing his absolute best to subvert the credibility of November’s vote, in which a record number of Americans are anticipated to depend on mail-in casting a ballot to avoid the risk of exposure to the Coronavirus.

He’s repeatedly made false and misleading claims about the reliability of the mail balloting and suggested broad conspiracy theories. Critics warn that he might be laying the groundwork for contesting the results – although the aim could also be simply to offer him a scapegoat if he loses.
