This year on October 5th we celebrate world teacher’s day, know about the history and how to make our teachers feel special.

Happy World Teachers Day

It would be safe to say that everyone has at least one favorite teacher. someone who went above and beyond to encourage you because they could see your potential. On October 5, take time to celebrate World Teachers’ Day — a global event launched by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1994.

Just as Harry had Dumbledore, Matilda had Ms. Honey and Cady had Ms. Norbury and considering all that teachers do for us, the least we can do is take one day out of the year to thank them.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

This day marks the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 UNESCO recommendation regarding the status of teachers. It sets standards regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers for their initial preparation, further education, recruitment, employment, and learning conditions.

UNESCO’S message this year is “With the theme: ‘Young Teachers: The Future of the Profession,’ we recognize the critical importance of reaffirming the value of the teaching mission. We call upon governments to make teaching a profession of first choice for young people. Above all, we celebrate the work of dedicated teachers around the world who continue to strive every day to ensure that ‘inclusive and equitable quality education’ and the promotion of ‘lifelong learning opportunities for all’ become a reality in every corner of the globe.”

The official event is set to take place this year at the UNESCO headquarters on October 7.

HOW TO CELEBRATE WORLD TEACHERS DAY

There are three ways that are sure to make your teacher know how much you love and appreciate them.

1. Surprise them with a gift- A gift can range from a personalized mug to a simple handwritten poem about your teacher. Every gift is special in its way to a teacher.

2. Make them feel special- Just the act of simply telling your teachers that you appreciate their hard work and effort especially during these times can brighten up their whole day.

3. Give them the royal treatment- teachers work all day so that we as students feel comfortable and safe, so why not return the favor and make them feel extra pampered this day. Maybe trying to be extra obedient in class today, or maybe not bothering them during their free time and letting them relax are great ways to let them know that their hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed.
