Kawasaki Like Disease Linked To COVID-19 Can Kill Children And Adults

Known as Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome, patients develop skin rashes, vomiting and fever which require intensive care and can be fatal.

Cases were first detected in children earlier this year.

In the latest development of the findings on COVID 19, it is reported that there have been cases of COVID 19 linked to Kawasaki like disease. A recent study in US and UK reveals that it has been found both in adults and children.

Known as the Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in children (MIS – C) it causes skin rash, vomiting, fever and swelling of glands. A similar condition has been detected in adults known as (MIS – A)

The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has revealed that there have been 27 cases across UK and US since June aged between 21 to 0.

It is revealed by researchers that such case are critical if it develops in adult and require intensive care with intubation and ventilators and may have fatal outcomes. They revealed the cases of 10 patients, 3 needed ventilators and 2 died with most patients either tested positive for COVID -19 or have had developed antibodies against it.

It was initially detected in children which causes inflammation of blood vessels. Youngsters who had the disease picked it weeks after COVID 19 infection. According to the website, live science, around 900 cases with MIS-C was reported in US with 19 deaths.

Doctors reveal that the adults who are either infected currently or previously tend to develop hyperinflamatory syndrome known as MIS-C.

They reveal that several cases were reported in adults to be referred now as Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome (MIS – A) All the patients who developed this disease also had severe effects on their heart functions with one of the ventricle dysfunction. Few reported arrhythmia or high troponin levels.

They further reveal that doctors should consider this with patients with compatible symptoms. They said that the interventions that prevent COVID 19 might prevent it. The findings have been published in the Morbidity and Mortality weekly report.
