Strom Bert To Cause Heavy Snowfall and Rain
United Kingdom is preparing for a tumultuous weekend as Storm Bert approaches. This brings with it heavy snow, relentless rain, and fierce winds as per the reports. The storm is all set to arrive during this upcoming weekend. According to the reports, more than 100 schools in Scotland and almost 200 in Devon and Cornwall have been closed due to snow. Furthermore the Met Office has issued a yellow alert for snow and ice till Friday (November 22). Moreover Bret is the second named storm of the season to bring extreme weather events.
The Met Office took to their X handle in order to spread cautions among the citizens. They wrote in the caption saying, “#StormBert has been named and is forecast to bring heavy rain, strong winds and disruptive snow to parts of the UK through the weekend #WeatherAware. Along with a video clip that showcases the areas that are highly going to get effected.

Forecasts predict wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph (113 km/h). This couples with significant rainfall, particularly in Wales and Southwest England. Whereas some areas could see up to 100 mm of rain as well. These conditions are expected to create hazardous travel situations, with authorities urging drivers to exercise caution. The authorities have issued saying that drivers must check the forecast before taking their vehicles out. Certain areas which are expecting to bear the brunt of Storm Bert, drivers have been advised to drive with “extreme caution”. Due to horrific collisions, Devon and Cornwall Police has already received many calls.
Matthew Lehnert, chief meteorologist at the Met Office, stated, “A northerly airflow will continue to feed snow showers into Scotland over the next few days, with this reaching lower levels at times and bringing the potential for some travel disruption.” With temperatures expected to plummet below freezing, additional ice warnings are likely as the storm progresses.
The meteorologist have further said that, “Overnight temperatures will drop below zero fairly widely over the next few days, which has resulted in some ice warnings, with further warnings likely through this week.”
