India And Japan Minister's In Meeting

In a significant step towards bolstering military collaboration. The Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Japanese counterpart, General Nakatani, have engaged in talks in Vientiane, Laos, during the 11th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM)-Plus. Their discussions have been centered on deepening interoperability between their armed forces. This explors the reciprocal provision of supplies and services between India and Japan. Thus this will help in  expanding the participation in bilateral and multilateral exercises.

Both leaders underscored the critical role of defence industry and technology cooperation. This helps in pledging to enhance co-production and co-development in the defence manufacturing sector. The focus now shifts to new collaborative ventures, thus particularly in the air domain. This reflects a shared commitment to regional security.

In September 2020, India and Japan signed an agreement for reciprocal provision of supplies and services between the country’s armed forces and Japan’s Self-Defense Forces. The pact establishes the enabling framework for closer cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries while engaged in bilateral training activities, United Nations peacekeeping operations, humanitarian relief, and other mutually agreed activities.

Rajnath Singh’s Meeting With Philippine Defence Minister Gilberto Teodoro

Singh also met with Philippine Defence Minister Gilberto Teodoro, where the two nations committed to enhancing cooperation in various fields, including defence industry, counter-terrorism, and maritime security. This aligns with the broader goals of the ADMM-Plus, which includes ASEAN countries and dialogue partners like India, China, Japan, Russia, and the United States.

Earlier, Singh held discussions with U.S. Defence Secretary Lloyd J. Austin, celebrating the notable advancements in the India-U.S. defence partnership marked by enhanced operational coordination and innovation.

The meetings with the defence ministers of Japan and the Philippines came a day after Singh met his US counterpart Lloyd J Austin. The two leaders hailed the impressive strides in the India-US defence partnership, pivoting on increased operational coordination, information-sharing, and industrial collaboration and innovation.

On Thursday, Singh also said that India stands for a rules-based international order for peace, prosperity.

As regional dynamics evolve. The collaboration between India and Japan reflects a mutual commitment to maintaining peace. This also promotes stability in the Indo-Pacific region, with a robust framework of cooperation paving the way for future joint endeavors.
