Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Kuwait for a two-day official visit. This visit aims to strengthen ties between India and the Gulf nation. During his stay, he will engage in a high-level discussion with Kuwait’s leadership and meet with the Indian diaspora. This will help in further solidifying deep-rooted bond between the two nations.

The visit comes at the invitation of Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. This visit marks first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country since Indira Gandhi’s trip back in 1981. According to Indian officials, a key focus of the talks will be the enhancement of defence and security cooperation. Discussions are also underway for a bilateral investment treaty and a defence cooperation agreement.

Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary (Overseas Indian Affairs) in the Ministry of External Affairs, confirmed that several important agreements are expected to be finalized during the visit.  This visit will further strengthen India’s ties with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), currently chaired by Kuwait.

Before departing, Narendra Modi expressed his anticipation for the meetings. He stated that they would provide an opportunity to devise a roadmap for a future-oriented partnership that benefits both nations and the broader region. He said, ““I look forward to my meetings with His Highness the Amir, the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister of Kuwait. International Business Ties Of India With Kuwait

The PM further emphasized the historical and endured relationship between India and Kuwait. India holds a significant position as one of Kuwait’s top trading partners, with bilateral trade valued at USD 10.47 billion in the fiscal year 2023-24. Additionally, Kuwait is a key energy partner, who supplies 3 percent of India’s crude oil needs. The Indian expatriate community also plays a vital role in Kuwait’s economy, constituting 30 percent of the country’s workforce, with Indians leading both the private and domestic sectors.

Hence this visit underscores enduring strategic partnership between India and Kuwait, one that continues to thrive on trade, energy, and mutual interests in regional security and development.
