Delhi Assembly Election To Begin On Feb 5, Results on Feb 8

The Election Commission has officially announced the dates for the Delhi Assembly elections. Voting will take place on February 5, 2025, and the results will be declared on February 8, 2025. Over 1.55 crore voters are eligible to participate in the election, which will be held across 70 constituencies, including 12 reserved seats. The election will take place in a single phase only. A total of 13,033 polling stations have been set up for the event.

Nomination Deadlines And Code Of Conduct

Candidates have until January 17, 2025, to file their nominations, and they can withdraw their candidacies by January 20, 2025. With the announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct is now in effect in Delhi. This in turn means no political party or candidate can use public resources for campaigning.

First-Time Voters And Special Initiatives

The upcoming Delhi Assembly election will see over 2 lakh first-time voters. The Election Commission has planned several initiatives to ensure smooth voting. Special provisions will be made to assist elderly citizens and those with disabilities. For those over 85 years old, a home voting option will be available, ensuring accessibility to all voters.

Political Reactions

AAP’s National Convener Arvind Kejriwal urged party workers to give their best for the election. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he said, “This is a fight between the politics of work and the politics of abuses. We will surely win.” He also encouraged party workers to be enthusiastic and energetic during the campaign.

BJP’s Response

BJP President expressed satisfaction with the announced dates and urged voters to choose a government that would ensure the development of Delhi. He emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP is committed to the all-round development of the capital city.

EVMs And Voter List Integrity

During the press conference, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar assured the public that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are tamper-proof and cannot be hacked. He dismissed any claims of manipulation, stating that such allegations have been thoroughly investigated and debunked. The Commission also addressed concerns regarding the manipulation of voter lists, with both the AAP and BJP accusing each other of making changes to boost their electoral prospects. Furthermore Kumar emphasized that the Election Commission follows a rigorous and transparent process for any alterations to voter lists.

The Political Landscape

The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is aiming for a third consecutive term in office, while the BJP is working hard to turn the tables and seize control of Delhi.
