Assam: Reserved EVM Found in Counting Centre Premises in Hailakandi Had No Votes Polled

Assembly Elections 2021: The counting process for Assam Assembly Elections 2021 has started at 8:00 AM today, May 2.

Ahead of the counting day, one reserved unused EVM was found inside a trunk at the counting centre on Saturday, May 1, evening at Hailakandi in Assam. On being detected, District Election Officer, Megh Nidhi Dahal along with Returning Officers rushed to the spot and inquired into it. The contesting candidates also reached the spot.

“The reserved EVM was found in one of the trunks which have been brought to the counting centre for keeping the polled EVMs after counting tomorrow,” said Dahal, adding that the contesting candidates were satisfied that the EVM was reserved and no votes were polled therein. The machine was later taken to the EVM warehouse and kept under safe custody.”

On further investigation, it was found that the unused EVM inside a trunk that found its way inadvertently to the counting venue was open before the contesting candidates who were satisfied with the results and the reserved EVM was taken immediately to the EVM warehouse adjacent to the Deputy Commissioner’s premises and stored there.
