Poll Dates for Assam and other four states have been announced by the Election Commission.
Poll Dates for Assam: The Election Commission of India on Friday announced the poll dates for Assam Assembly Elections 2021. A press conference was held to inform the important dates of the upcoming elections in the northeastern state. Assam, which is among the five states going to polls this year has 126 total constituencies.
The General Assembly Elections will be conducted by EC in Assam, Kerala, Tamilnadu, West Bengal and Pudducherry. Elections in Assam will be held in three phases starting on March 27, April 1 and April 6. There are 126 seats in Assam, 294 seats in West Bengal, 234 seats in Tamil Nadu, 140 seats in Kerala, and 30 seats in Puducherry.
With the announcement of the poll dates by the Election Commission of India, the model code of conduct has come into effect immediately. Political parties have to abide by the rules of the MCC’s do’s and don’ts ahead of the upcoming elections. Model Code of Conduct is a set of guidelines issued by ECI to regulate political parties and candidates before elections.
During a press conference in Vigyan Bhavan at New Delhi, the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Sunil Arora said, “Assam assembly elections will be held in 3 phases – 1st phase of polling- 27th March, second phase polling-1st April and third phase of polling-6th April; Date of counting 2nd May.”
