Neena Gupta, who recently released her autobiography ‘Sach Kahun Toh’ reveals in the book that she wore a heavily padded bra in Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt’s iconic song ‘Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai’ from Khal Nayak.

Neena stated that Subhash Ghai already had a concept in his mind on how the song should look and she was sent to dress trials in a tribal Gujarati outfit at first and was asked to wear a padded blouse. However, she revealed that when Subhash Ghai saw her first look, he wasn’t impressed with the padded blouse and shouted ”Kuch bharo,” hinting that her bust needs to look full.

That is when the designers changed the outfit and asked Neena to wear a heavily padded bra inside her new but already padded blouse and her look was approved by Subhash Ghai in an instant.

Sharing the details in her book, Neena wrote, ”They put me in a tribal Gujarati outfit and sent me to Subhash Ghai for approval. ‘No! No! No! No!’ he shouted. ‘Kuch bharo.’ I was so embarrassed. In my opinion, he was referring to my choli and stating that it needed to be filled. It wasn’t anything personal, I knew. He had visualized something . . . bigger for the rendition.”

She continued. ”I didn’t shoot that day. But the next day I was presented to him in a different outfit, with a bra that was heavily padded, and he seemed satisfied. Subhash Ghai was very particular about what he wanted, which was why he was such a good director.”

The foot-tapping number was all the rage in the 90s and Neena walked down memory lane on how the filmmaker contacted her to be a part of the song. She revealed that she was impressed with how the song was made and knew in an instant that it would be a superhit number.

”When I first heard the song, I knew it was catchy. But when Subhash Ghai told me what my role would be, I wasn’t so keen any more. I liked the fact that my part was sung by my friend Ila Arun, with whom I had acted in many films. But I couldn’t do it.” However, she later wrote that Subhash Ghai convinced her to do the role and the rest is history.
