Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth tied the knot in a royal wedding on November 20, 1947, at Westminster Abbey and spent 65 years supporting his wife, who eventually went on to become Her Majesty, The Queen on June 2, 1953. He also took an active role in the upbringing of his children.

In his active years, Prince Philip chalked out a new direction leading the Monarchy to champion Britain in environmental causes, along with the betterment of science and technology.

Queen Elizabeth had also acknowledged Prince Philip’s loving influence on her, calling him her “strength and stay” in a speech she delivered on their 50th wedding anniversary in 1997 and their love for each other remained strong all throughout the years and several people called their wedding a ‘story of young love’.
