In a shocking turn of events, the Indian fashion industry has lost one of its brightest stars, Rohit Bhal. The iconic fashion designer passed away at the age of 63. Known for his innovative designs and exquisite craftsmanship, Bhal’s contributions to Bollywood and high fashion have left an indelible mark. His unexpected demise has prompted an outpouring of grief from fans and celebrities alike, as the world of fashion mourns the loss of a true visionary.
The Fashion Design Council of India took to their Instagram account and made a post about the designer’s death. They wrote, “We mourn the passing of Legendary designer Rohit Bal. He was a founding member of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI). Known for his unique blend of traditional patterns with modern sensibilities, Bal’s work redefined Indian fashion, and inspired generations. His legacy of artistry, and innovation along with forward thinking will live on in the fashion world. Rest in peace GUDDA. You are a legend.” His passion for fashion quickly propelled him into the limelight, leading to collaborations with some of Bollywood’s most prominent figures. Renowned for his ability to blend traditional Indian aesthetics with contemporary flair, Bhal revolutionized the way clothing. It was widely perceived in the industry. His signature style, characterized by vibrant colors and intricate embellishments, became a favorite among celebrities and fashion enthusiasts.
Throughout his illustrious career, Rohit Bhal dressed a myriad of stars, including A-listers such as Ranveer Sing, Katrina Kaif, Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Sonam Kapoor, Siddharth Malhotra, and many more. His creations were not merely garments; they were statements that embodied the essence of glamour and sophistication. The designer was particularly celebrated for his bridal wear, which often featured luxurious fabrics and detailed craftsmanship that captivated brides and grooms alike.

As news of his passing broke, social media platforms became flooded with tributes from celebrities who had once donned his creations. Global icon and Actress Priyanka Chopra expressed her sorrow, stating, “Gone too young. Rest peacefully,” Whereas actor Siddharth Malhotra also took to his social media account to post and wrote, “deeply saddened by the loss.” Paying tribute to the fashion designer, the actor added, “May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti.”
Similarly, Bollywood’s fashionista Sonam Kapoor took to her Instagram account and awrote a note on the designer’s demise. She wrote, “Dear Gudda, I hear about your passing on my way to celebrate diwali in your gorgeous creation that you generously lent to me for the second time. I’ve been blessed to have known you and worn you and walked for you multiple times. I hope you’re at peace. Always your biggest fan. Rohit Bal.”
In October, Bal had made a triumphant return to the runway nearly a year after a health scare. The designer showcased his collection “Kaaynaat: A Bloom in the Universe” at the grand finale of Lakmé Fashion Week. Rohit Bal had been struggling with health issues for some time; in 2023, he was hospitalised at Medanta Hospital in Delhi due to heart ailments.
Weeks after his hospital admission, Bal shared a heartfelt post were he was seen expressing gratitude for the get-well-soon wishes he received.

The celebrated designer graduated with honors in History from the prestigious St. Stephen’s College in New Delhi. Moreover after spending a few years in his family’s export business to gain valuable experience, he launched his own label and designer line in 1990, marking the beginning of an illustrious career.
