Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan passes away at 72 in Mumbai

Saroj Khan: Bollywood's ace choreographer dies at the age of 72 due to a cardiac arrest. Saroj Khan was admitted at Guru Nanak Hospital in Mumbai's Bandra for treatment after she complained of breathing problems.

Saroj Khan, Bollywood’s Ace choreographer, who was admitted at Guru Nanak Hospital in Mumbai’s Bandra on June 17 has passed away. Saroj Khan was admitted after she complained of breathing problems. She died of cardiac arrest at 1.52 am early on Friday. The renowned choreographer ailed from diabetes and related illness. She also tested for coronavirus but the reports came negative later. She passed away at the age of 72 and is survived by her husband B.Sohanlal, son Hamid Khan and daughters Hina Khan and Sukyna Khan.

Saroj Khan began her working career as a background dancer at the age of three, she got her first opportunity as an independent choreographer with Geeta Mera Naam in 1974. She is also three-time National Award winner and has been accredited with choreographing over 2000 songs, including iconic numbers such as Hawa Hawai from the movie Mr India (1987), Ek Do Teen from Tezaab (1988), Dhak Dhak Karne Laga from Beta (1992) and Dola Re Dola from Devdas (2002). Her last choreographed song was Tabaah Ho Gaye picturized on Madhuri Dixit in the movie Kalank form Karan Johar’s Dharma production in the year 2019.

Nirmala Nagpal, popularly known as Saroj Khan (22 November 1948-July 3, 2020) was one of the most prominent Indian dance choreographers in the Hindi cinema. She was born at the Bombay state (present-day Maharashtra), India, with a career span of over forty years, She choreographed more than 2000 songs and is known as “The Mother of Dance/choreography in India.

Saroj Khan appeared on a reality dance show as a member of the jury in 2005 Nach Baliye, which aired on STAR One along with two other judges. She also appeared in the second season of the same show. She recently judged the show Ustaadon Ka Ustaad, which aired on Sony Entertainment Television (India) and also appeared on the 2008 show Nachle Ve, which aired on NDTV Imagine.
