‘Itni Shakti Hume Dena Data’, Singer And Songwriter, Abhilash Passes Away Due To Stomach Cancer

Veteran songwriter, and lyricist, who gained fame through the song, Itni Shakti Hume Dena Data passes away due to stomach cancer.

Singer Abhilash was bed ridden since 10 months

Veteran songwriter Abhilash, who gave the lyrics of Itni Shakti Hume Dena Data from 1986 film Ankush dies today in Goregaon. He passesdaway due to stomach illness.

The music industry is facing a big blow as we lost many gems from music industry this year. Reportedly, the renowned writer and lyricist Abhilash passed away on September 28 early morning after battling cancer for over a year.

Besides this, he was bed-ridden for the last 10 months. Abhilash was known for his work on films such as Laal Chooda (1984), Hulchul (1995) and Jeete Hain Shaan Se (1988). He debuted as a lyricist for Phir Aya Toofan (1973).

His famous song, ‘Itni shakti hame dena daata’ became very popular since the release of film. He had also worked under legendary, Lata Mangeshkar. Also, the song gained so much of love, that it had been translated in to eight languages and is played as a prayer song across schools, nationalized banks and prisons in India even today.

His works hit many boundaries. He had also written screenplays and dialogues for several films and television shows. For the uninformed, he was inspired by the works of poet and lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi. Abhilash was the recipient of the Kalashree Award by former President Giani Zail Singh.

For the uninformed, his real name was Om Prakash and he also had contributed in several ghazals and many stories were published under this name in newspapers before the onset of his career in the music industry. He was endowed with the music passion since his childhood. He carried forward to his legacy till his death.

The writer’s family had been going through a time and it was recently reported that they were seeking financial help for his treatment. Along with this, his daughter and son-in-law residing in Bengaluru couldn’t attend their father’s last rites due to COVID-19 medical protocols. As per the Government instructions, only 15 to 20 people were allowed at the funeral owing to the COVID-19 restrictions.
