Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson becomes Greek citizens

Hollywood megastar Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson has been honoured with greek citizenship, the announcement was made on Sunday by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The Greek Prime Minister and his wife Mareva Grabowski visited the couple and gave them their new Greek passport and citizenship on the islands of Paros. As per reports, Mitsotakis, Grabowski, Hanks, and Wilson discussed the art, tourism, and the political relations between Greece and the U.S during the visit. The conversation took place in the Aegean Sea.

The four posed for a photograph together which was later shared on Mitsotakis Instagram handle on Sunday morning. According to the Greek newspaper Ekathimerini, Wilson and Hanks own a home on the neighbouring islands of Antiparos, Wilson is also part of Greek descent. Tom is known for playing comedy characters and dramatic roles and is also one of the most popular and renowned American film stars.

The actor is also the fifth highest-grossing actor in North America with his films grossing more than $4.9 billion in North America and more than $9.66 worldwide. Tom is also honoured with two Academy Awards out of six nominations. He has been the recipient of Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in the year 2004.

Hanks got his breakthrough in the year 1984 with a leading role in the comedy film Splash, and Big in 1988. He received two consecutive Academy Awards for best actor for playing the role of gay lawyer suffering from AIDS in Philadelphia. He is also known for his remarkable performance in movies like Sleepless in Seattle 1993, you’ve Got Mail 1998 and Toy story film series (1995-2019).

In 2014, Tom was also felicitated with Kennedy Center Honor, and in 2016, he received a Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama, as well as the French Legion of Honor.
