Krishna Janmashtami 2020 with Shubh Muhurat for prayer and how to keep fast

Krishna Janmashtami 2020: This year Janmashtami will be celebrated on August 12, 2020. Know how to fast, decorate the Bal Gopala idol and preparations for the celebration.

Krishna Janmashtami which is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Krishna with zeal and enthusiasm in our country and even in other countries too. It is one of the most important Hindu festivals, the eighth incarnation of the God Vishnu. Birthday of Krishna is celebrated on the eighth day of the Hindu month of Bhadrava, which often falls in the month of August or in September.

Lord Krishna, Baal roop i.e Laddu Gopal is adored by many people. This day is celebrated by showing dance, enactment on the life of Krishna according to the Bhagavata Purana such as Rasa Lila or Krishna Lila, a night vigil is observed till midnight by singing devotional songs. Krishna was born at midnight and people who observe fast, open it after the birth of Lord Krishna. Ceremonies, rituals are performed in different areas of the city and in every state of India.

Decorating Lord Sri Krishna’s Idol

On this day, rituals are performed by initially placing a red cloth on the stool and then followed by the bath to the idol of the infant Krishna (Laddu Gopal) with Panchamrita and with Gangajal after Panchamrita bath. Panchamrita can be made with a mixture of five things i.e- milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar. Thereby, dressing it in new clothes and jewellery, by applying tilak and by offering lamp, prasad made up of butter-mishri, leaf of tulsi, fruits and Ganga water. At last, the idol of infant Krishna is placed in the cradle with toys in it.

In Maharashtra, Krishna is known as Govinda. Their ritual includes pots that have money, curds and butter, which is hung high over the streets, and boys form human pyramids in order to break the pot. It is accompanied by a feast of 108 dishes. Krishna Janmashtami is a gazetted holiday in India. It is a nationwide public holiday in many countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and even in the United States.

This year Janmashtami will be celebrated on August 12 2020, Wednesday. It is believed that Krishna has taken birth in Rohini Nakshatra but this year Janmashtami falls in Kritika Nakshatra. So, the planetary position of the moon will be in Aries sign, whereas the planetary position of the sun will be in Cancer sign. Therefore, an auspicious time to worship will be between 12:05 A.M to 12:47 A.M which means a total of 43 minutes only.

Method of observing fast

Devotes on this day should wake up early in the morning, after taking a bath, you should pay homage to God. When you pray, keep your face toward the North direction or in the East direction. Keep water, flowers and fruits in your hands by determining that I am going to observe the fast throughout the day and will open it after your birth. When you worship, take different names of God and sing devotional songs throughout the day and open your fast at midnight after the birth of Lord Krishna. During the day keep positive thoughts and refrain yourself from negative thoughts and eat only fruits or chapati made up of Buckwheat.
