5.3 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Telangana Effect Felt On Maharashtra Nagpur As Well

The residents of Nagpur and Gadchiroli in Maharashtra were jolted by tremors following a 5.3-magnitude earthquake on Wednesday. According to official reports, this is a similar earthquke that struck Mulugu in Telangana at 7:27 AM in morning.

The National Center for Seismology gave a conformation that the earthquake originated was in Mulugu. Whereas light tremors were felt in some regions of Nagpur. Furthermore, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) also verified the tremors, which were reported by locals in the region. Gadchiroli, which is located near the Telangana border, also experienced mild shocks, as confirmed by the district information office. IMD officials also explained that such light tremors could typically be felt within a 200 to 300 km radius from the epicenter.

Thankfully, there have been no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage. Authorities are still evaluating the situation. Whereas experts are advising public to remain cautious and avoid crowded or unsafe buildings during earthquake.  They is also a warning that aftershocks could follow, so residents are urged to stay alert. The National Center for Seismology shared the earthquake details on X, stating: “EQ of M: 5.3, On 04/12/2024 07:27:02 IST, Lat: 18.44 N, Long: 80.24 E, Depth: 40 Km, Location: Mulugu, Telangana.”

The Recent Earthquake Was The Strongest In Last 20 Years

Seismic activity is uncommon in Telangana, which is classified as Zone II, indicating a low likelihood of strong earthquakes. India’s seismic zones range from II (low risk) to V (high risk), with nearly 59% of the country prone to varying levels of seismic activity.
The Telangana Weatherman on X pointed out that this earthquake was one of the strongest to hit the region in the last 20 years. He further added that the tremors were felt across Telangana, including in the state capital, Hyderabad.

NDRF Is Looking After The Emergency

Authorities have issued precautionary advisories to the public. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is on standby for potential emergencies. Hence for this reason residents are should keep in mind to stay alert and adhere to safety guidelines, particularly during aftershocks. Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation, ready to take action if necessary. Communication lines remain open for further updates and instructions. Despite the region’s history of minor earthquakes, this event serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness and staying informed to ensure public safety.
In other earthquake-related news, a 2.9 magnitude earthquake struck Karbi Anglong in Assam on November 30 at 2:40 AM. Whereas a 5.8 magnitude quake hit Jammu and Kashmir on November 28. Fortunately, no casualties or significant damage took place from either event.
