AAP Promises 24-Hour Water Supply
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal today unveiled plans to ensure a 24-hour water supply across Delhi. The water supply will start with Rajendra Nagar. Kejriwal also announced that the 24-hour supply has already begun in the area and will soon be extended throughout the city very soon.
“Good news. From today, 24-hour water supply is starting in a colony of Rajendra Nagar. Very soon, it will be available in the entire city too,” he made a statement on the water supply.
The Former chief minister also made a statement saying that “When we came to power 10 years ago in Delhi, around 50-60 per cent of water was supplied by tankers. There used to be tanker mafia. I am happy to say that today, after 10 years, 97 per cent of Delhi gets water by pipeline,” former chief minister said. “Today, round-the-clock clean water supply has started in Rajinder Nagar and we will extend it to the entire Delhi in the coming times,” he added.
This is part of the AAP’s new welfare initiatives ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections. The party also introduced the Sanjeevani Yojana. This Yojana will offer free medical treatment to Delhi residents who are aged 60 and above. Registration for this scheme has begun in Jangpura, where AAP has fielded former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia.
Kejriwal explained that under the Sanjeevani Yojana, senior citizens can avail free treatment at both government and private hospitals. The scheme aims to benefit around 20-25 lakh elderly residents.
Under this scheme, women and senior citizens will be given monthly assistance once registered. This comes ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly Election. Mahila Samman Yojana promises a monthly allowance of Rs 2,100 to women in Delhi. Within hours of its launch, 2.5 lakh women had already registered.
Additionally, AAP introduced the Dr Ambedkar Scholarship to support Dalit students pursuing higher education, though details on funding and implementation remain unclear.
In the 2020 Assembly elections, AAP secured a landslide victory, winning 62 of 70 seats. With the 2025 elections nearing, both AAP and BJP are ramping up their efforts to win over voters.
The Delhi government in its 2024-25 budget had announced to provide Rs 1,000 per month to all women aged above 18 the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana scheme. However, the AAP convener increased the amount to Rs 2,100. He promised women of Delhi that the money will transfer every month to registered beneficiaries if his party returns to power in the assembly elections, which is slated for February 2025.
