Golaghat: In a heartwarming gesture, Assam MLA Mrinal Saikria dabbled through the floodwaters to rescue people and livestock. He shared a video of him rescuing a kid paddling through the waist deep waters and earned widespread praise from netizens. He said, ”Flood is creating havoc in my constituency..we have been rescuing stranded people from interior places.” The leader is involved In the rescue operations of the stranded since a week now.

In another video, he was seen rescuing hundreds of stranded goats from Goromorra village. He tweeted that he was happy to rescue hundreds of goats which have been stranded in the villages as livestock is very important for the local economy. Netizans heaped praise on Saikria for his good deeds of helping stranded people and livestock.
A twitter user wrote, ”This is what the politicians should do – Give back when the time comes for people voting them to power.” He further added, ”this is a good example for others to follow.” Another user wrote that his constant efforts to help stranded people and livestock is worth notable.

Assam has seen the worst floods in the last couple of days with over 22 lakh people in 27 districts being affected. At least 85 people have lost their lives to the fury of floods. The NDRF has been assisting in rescue operations in the state and helping people shift to relief camps.
The Kaziranga National park has also been over flooded with the raising waters overflowing from Bramhaputra and its tributaries. Many tigers and other wild animals have been forced to leave their habitats and enter the human residential areas in the highlands.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has been visiting the flood affected areas to take stock of the situation.
