UP Police To Raise Army Of Digital Warriors To Combat Fake Cybercrime In Maha Kumbh Mela 2025

Ahead of the Maha Kumbh 2025, Uttar Pradesh Police is set to create an innovative force of digital warriors. The task of these digital worriers is to tackle with the growing issues of fake news and cybercrime. This new initiative will involve the establishment of cyber clubs in schools and colleges.  Schools and colleges are the two places where specially appointed nodal teachers will guide the activities. The police aim to expand their presence across all digital platforms. The social platforms includes WhatsApp, and will enlist youth in large numbers to help spread awareness about cyber threats.

The concept of Digital Warriors was successfully tested during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, where it made a significant impact. This pilot experiment’s success has led to a state-wide implementation, with DGP Prashant Kumar who issued a detailed instruction for its rollout. The initiative was drawn on a proven model from 2018 when the UP Police began involving citizens as digital volunteers on WhatsApp to combat misinformation. By 2023, several community groups on Whatsapp were created to help counter fake news and highlight the police’s commendable work. Currently, around 10 lakh digital volunteers and 2 lakh police officers are part of these community networks.

The new strategy will see university students and social media influencers play a key role as digital warriors. These individuals will help spread awareness about cybercrime and counteract fake news within their networks. These digital warriors will be selected based on the four main categories. Lastly the four categories include refuting fake news and alerting about cybercrime, raising awareness on cybercrime, training others as cyber experts, and publicizing the police’s positive campaigns.

Workshops will be conducted at universities, colleges, schools, and police lines. These workshops will be led by cybercrime experts, fact-checkers, and district cyber police officers. Local police officers will coordinate with educational institutions to form cyber clubs, with each club overseen by a nominated teacher as the nodal officer. In collaboration with the education department and district administration, these workshops will offer a range of activities. The activities include poster-making, slogan writing, short story creation, and video production aimed at educating the public about internet safety.

Moreover to ensure credibility and integrity of initiative, only individuals with clean image will be selected as digital warriors. Volunteers must fill out an online form and sign a declaration agreeing to abide by various terms and conditions. These include cooperating with the police to debunk false news, refraining from spreading misinformation, avoiding any involvement in cybercrime, and adhering to legal guidelines. Participation in the initiative is voluntary and unpaid, though exceptional contributors will be recognized and rewarded for their efforts. Moreover monthly reports on the digital warriors’ activities will be maintained, and in each district, the SP (Crime) will serve as the nodal officer overseeing the initiative.

By enlisting the support of a wide network of youth and educators, UP Police aims to create a more secure digital environment during Maha Kumbh 2025. Furthermore this ensures that the event remains free from the disruptions caused by misinformation and cybercrime.
