Maha Kumbh: Rs 400 Crore Power Infrastructure To Guarantee Round The Clock Electricity
The Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, is gearing up for the Maha Kumbh festival with an impressive power infrastructure worth Rs 400 crore to ensure uninterrupted electricity for over 40 crore devotees. The festival, set to begin on January 13 and end on February 26, will see a significant enhancement in the region’s power supply to meet the demands of one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.
To facilitate 24/7 power supply. The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) has laid down 182 km of high-tension lines and 1,405 km of low-tension lines. These extensive additions are aimed at ensuring a smooth power supply throughout the event, which will last for 45 days.

The state government plans to illuminate the sprawling fairgrounds using over 40,000 rechargeable bulbs. Anoop Kumar Sinha, Executive Engineer in charge of the Electricity Department, shared that these bulbs will be installed at strategic points, alongside standard LED lights. These rechargeable bulbs are expected to be crucial for illuminating over 4.5 lakh electrical connections, particularly in the camps set up for devotees.
The rechargeable bulbs will cost around Rs 2.7 crore. This will be funded through the ongoing infrastructure projects meant for the Maha Kumbh. The initiative highlights the government’s focus on providing not only reliable electricity but also sustainable lighting solutions.

Security and surveillance measures for the Maha Kumbh are equally robust. For the first time, underwater drones capable of diving 100 meters will monitor the Triveni Sangam area, where millions of devotees gather to take a purifying dip. In addition, drones will oversee aerial surveillance to ensure crowd safety.
A network of 2,700 CCTV cameras with Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities will be deployed across the event site. These cameras will assist in real-time monitoring, with facial recognition technology at entry points to enhance security. This will also help in tracking participants effectively.
The Uttar Pradesh government has also focused on improving the region’s infrastructure in preparation for the grand event. A total of 92 roads have been renovated, 30 new bridges have been constructed, and 800 multi-lingual signages have been installed for better guidance. Moreover these upgrades are designed to streamline the movement of the massive crowd that attends the Kumbh Mela.
The Maha Kumbh Mela is considered one of the largest spiritual gatherings globally, where devotees come together to bathe in the holy waters of the Triveni Sangam. It is believed that it purifies their soul. The event is held in a rotating cycle at four sacred locations in India—Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik. Furthermore this year’s Maha Kumbh will be hosted in Prayagraj, attracting millions of pilgrims seeking spiritual purification.
