Barak Obama, the 44th president of the United States turns 59 today. He created history by becoming the first African American president of the US. He was sworn in as president on 20 January 2001.

It was the time when the US was experiencing a rather unusual situation of economic downturn. Obama inherited the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq form his predecessor, Gorge Bush – the people were looking forward to a fresh wave of change in the US,

A young civil rights astronomy, who spent his initial years as community organizer devoted his time in public service, took to politics and was elected to the Illinois senate in 1996, served three terms until 2004 and was making headlines when he announced his presidential candidacy in 2007.

Throughout the presidential campaign, Obama raised groundbreaking issues and waved to end Iraq war, revive healthcare system and pledged for better energy independence.
Obama’s lightening campaign speeches left the American public with dreams of new hopes and waves of change.

On 20 January 2004, Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States. He had an illustrious journey as the president. His popular milestones include the withdrawal of forces from Iraq, his economic policies spearheaded a gradual recovery of the US from the economic downturn.

His policies such as the moderate increase of tax payment for the rich, his healthcare reform popularly known as ‘Obamacare, his banking bailout and a host of other policies were notable His foreign policies popularly known as ‘Obama Doctrine’ saw a major shift towards instilling peace and stability in warring nations.

He championed the withdrawal of troops from both Iraq and Afghanistan to reduce tensions and help the nations to move towards peace and stability. His impactful energy policies included the Clean Energy and recovery act, his initiatives for better energy security such as increasing fuel efficiency standards were quite notable.
