A new study reveals immunity to Coronavirus will diminish in a span of a few months.

Coronavirus is leaving a long lasting impact on the health of patients. It is not only affecting their health, but also leaving its dangerous footprint after recovery. Recent reports from a team lead by researchers from King’s College London examined the levels of antibodies in more than 90 confirmed patients and how they changed overtime.

Blood tests show results that patients with mild symptoms mounted some immune response to the virus. Earlier, researchers from Neuroscientists claimed that Coronavirus affects the long term brain damage from recovered patients which leads to brain dysfunction, strokes, serious brain effects for nerve damage. Now, report show that due to this contagious virus, patients who are recovering from COVID-19 infections may loose their immunity to reinfection within months.

As per the studies which were conducted, 60% showed a “Potent” viral response infection in the initial few weeks and only 16.7% of Coronavirus patients maintained high levels to neutralize antibodies. So, when antigen bodies such as virus encounters the body, it kills the culprit by mobilizing the cells. Patients who have enough antibodies will be able to snub new infections by giving them immunity.

However, experts said that the government will change the plan for the next phase of the pandemic in which they will decide how they will find and organise vaccine research and development.

Lawrence Young, professor of Molecular Oncology at the University of Warwick, said, “It is an important study which is started to define the antibody response to SARS-COV-2 and its long term dynamics and effects on health by using the full name of the virus strain”.

“It also emphasises for us to understand that how a protective immune response looks like if we are in the stage of developing an effective vaccine,” said Young, who is not the part of research.

AFP cautioned, “It is mandatory to use mask and to maintain social distancing. Even those with a positive antibody test, especially those who cannot account for where they may have been exposed.”
