John McAfee: British-American computer programmer John McAfee passed away on Wednesday after hanging himself in a Barcelona prison.
He took this extreme step right after the Spanish high court announced that it had authorised his extradition to the United States on tax evasion charges, his lawyer told the news agency.
In a statement from regional Catalan to the government, at the Brians 2 penitentiary in northeastern Spain, McAfee’s body was discovered. Despite Security personnel’s numerous efforts to revive him, they couldn’t save him and the jail’s medical team finally served a death certificate.
A judicial delegation arrived at the crime spot to investigate the causes of death. Everything has been pointed to death by suicide, the statement adds.
During a court hearing last month, prosecutors argued that in Tennessee, the charges were politically motivated and McAfee said that given his age, he would have to spend the rest of his life in prison if returned to the U.S. He hoped that the Spanish court will see the injustice of this. The United States wants to use him as an example, he adds.

Spain’s National Court ruled in favour of extraditing McAfee.
McAfee, personal interests were drugs, guns, sex, smartphone apps, cryptocurrency and yoga. Not just that he had a history of legal woes spanning from Tennessee to Central America to the Caribbean. He is counted among as a cryptocurrency promoter, tax opponent, U.S. Presidential candidate and fugitive.
In 2012, the US authorities searched him for questioning in connection with the murder of his neighbour in Belize.

In October 2020, McAfee was nabbed in Spain over U.S. Tax evasion charges. U.S. Federal prosecutors brought criminal and civil charges alleging that McAfee failed to pay income taxes over a four-year period.
McAfee’s interests also lie in political activities. He became a political activist. McAfee was a libertarian, who advocated the decriminalization of cannabis, propagated campaigns to end the war on drugs, non-interventionism in foreign policy, a free-market economy that does not redistribute wealth and uphold free trade.
