Kanye West named his line of Adidas shoes Israfil and Asriel, who are among the four archangels in Islam.

Rapper Kanye West took to Twitter announcing he’s teaming up with Adidas for a new line of trainer shoes named Israfil and Asriel. The shoes will hit the market next week and is priced around $240. However, users slammed the rapper for naming the shoes on the archangels in Islam. Israfil is one of the four archangels in Islam and Azrael, is called the angel of death.

A disgusted user took to Twitter slamming Kanye and Adidas for hurting their religious sentiments and wrote, ”The fact that Kanye West | Adidas named their new shoes ”Israfil” is a disrespect to all Muslims.” Another user Nazeem Islam tweeted, “It is not acceptable to make a mockery out of the beliefs of others,” while another wrote, “If you had any respect for your Muslim fans, you would change the name.”

Several users urged Kanye and Adidas to rename the shoes as it disrespects their religion and incites hatred. ”Cant you use a different name? Do you need to use the name of an extremely important angel of Islam? The angel who blows in the horn to start judgement day?!” said a user, while the other tweeted, ”A very disrespectful act. You want to sell products on inciting hatred. Shame on Adidas.”

Kanye West’s Presidential Run

Rapper Kanye announced his presidential bid and is on the ballot this November’s election. Critics claim he’s trying to divert votes of black Americans from the Democrats to his party in a bid to help re-elect President Donald Trump.

Kanye and Trump have been on good terms and the rapper was among the first celebrities to visit Trump in 2016 and congratulate him for the victory, just a few days after he beat Hillary Clinton in the presidential bid. In 2018, Kanye visited the White House and had a photo-op with the president at the Oval office where she showcased his love for the president.

The rapper is now running on conservative issues such as anti-abortion among others. When Trump was asked about Kanye’s presidential bid, he said, “I like him. He’s always been very nice to me.”
