The 2025 Mahakumbh is set to highlight the rich cultural traditions of India’s northeastern states. This year, for the first time, saints from the Northeast will actively participate in the Shahi Snan, adding a new chapter to the iconic event. Special focus will be on the Assam-based tradition of Xatradhikars and the Assamese Namghar culture.

A Historic First: Northeastern Saints At The Kumbh

The Yogi Adityanath government has extended a warm invitation to saints from the northeastern states, granting them the status of ‘State Guests.’ Special arrangements are being made in the Kumbh complex for these distinguished guests. The Pragjyotishpur area will host the Northeastern cultural events starting from January 12. The region’s saints, including Padma Shri awardee Chitta Maharaj of Tripura, along with revered xatradhikars from Dakshin Pat Satra and Garmur Satra, will participate in the Shahi Snan. Moreover their participation marks significant milestone in the history of the Mahakumbh.

Special Preparations For Xatradhikars

In a groundbreaking move, the Pragjyotishpur camp will feature a Namghar—a first in the history of the Kumbh. This spiritual center will accommodate the Xatradhikars during the festival. They will participate in rituals and the royal bath, bringing their distinct traditions to the event also. Religious gatherings will be held, along with a non-stop Bhagwat Katha, running for 168 hours from January 21 to 27.

A Vibrant Exhibition Of Northeastern Cultures

An exhibition showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the northeastern states will be a major highlight of the Mahakumbh. The exhibition will feature a complete picture of the region’s society, culture, and religion. Traditional performances will include a Ramlila-style presentation by Ram Vijay Bhavana, Manipuri dance, and Xatriya dance. Visitors will also be treated to the Bamboo Dance from Nagaland and Apsara dance, reflecting the unique traditions of the region.

A special model of Kamakhya, one of the holiest shrines in Assam, will be set up at the Mahakumbh. Sacred water from Kamakhya will be distributed among devotees, adding to the spiritual significance of the event. The arrangements for the fair have been meticulously planned to ensure the comfort and satisfaction of all saints, particularly the distinguished guests from the Northeast.

Excellent Arrangements And Hospitality For Saints

The Mela administration, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has gone all out to make sure the guests from the Northeast feel at home. The accommodations and facilities for the 125 saints invited from the region will be top-notch. These efforts have already earned praise from the saints, who are impressed by the warm hospitality. Moreover saints are receiving calls from the Chief Minister’s office to confirm their travel and stay arrangements.

The 2025 Mahakumbh will stand out for its celebration of the Northeast’s spiritual, cultural, and religious diversity. Moreover with the participation of region’s revered saints and artists, the event promises to be a historic blend of traditions. This year’s Kumbh will not only showcase the grand rituals but also honor the vibrant cultures of India’s northeastern states.
