CAT 2020: Syllabus, Exam Pattern and Schedule! All You Need To Know

CAT 2020: Here's all you need to know about the all India MBA entrance exam. CAT 2020 Syllabus, CAT exam pattern, CAT application procedure, Eligibility Criteria and CAT exam schedule 2020.

CAT 2020: Common Admission Test (CAT), is a Computer-based Test jointly conducted by the IIMs and TCS. CAT is a common entrance exam test which is necessary to apply in order to take admissions into Indian Institute of Management and other Universities for Post Graduate Management Programs i.e. M.B.A.

After appearing in CAT, the applicants who qualify in the Common Admission Test Exam can get the admission in IIMs and other Indian Universities and Colleges.

Common Admission Test appears to be one of the best exams in India in order to take admissions in Management Courses for students. The notification to apply for CAT exam releases every year in the month of August. The CAT examination is conducted within the month of November. Based on the CAT Score, the Indian Institute of Management gives admissions to the candidates.

CAT 2020: Topics Covered In The Exam

Verbal Ability (VA)
Quantitative Ability (QA)
Reading Comprehension (RC)
Logical Reasoning (LR)
Data Interpretation (DI).

The main purpose of having this exam is to select students for Business Administrative Program. A large number of candidates apply for CAT every year for the admission in MBA Programs. The duration of exam is for 3 hours with the validity of score for one year.

CAT Exam Syllabus

There is no presumed syllabus for the exam but we can sort of expect the syllabus is mainly from the middle school topics of Maths, and English with some generic logical reasoning questions. A few of the small print of CAT syllabus are:

CAT Quantitative Aptitude: The syllabus for CAT quantitative aptitude mainly includes topics from class 8-10 like geometry, algebra, numeration system, etc

CAT Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation: The logical reasoning section is extremely generic and a good sort of questions supported seating arrangement, direction sense test, etc. are included. The data interpretation section includes questions mostly supported data case-lets and graphs

CAT Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension: A comprehension passages are given followed by a few questions. Apart from that, few of the grammar-based questions like sentence completion, jumbled sentences, etc. are asked.

CAT Exam Eligibility Criteria

  • In order to appear for the exam, a candidate must finish the Bachelor’s Degree with minimum 50% of marks from a recognized university
  • Students belonging to SC, ST, PWD Category must attain a minimum 45% marks in the Bachelor’s Degree Exam
  • The applicants completing the ultimate Year Under Graduation Course also are eligible.

Students who are eligible to apply for CAT 2020 can access the website through the link www.iimcat.ac.in. The website will remain open until 5 pm on September 16. There is category wise bifurcation for the applicability of the fee of the exam. Application fee for the general category candidates is Rs 2000, while for the reserved category Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disability (PwD) are Rs 1000.

CAT Exam Pattern

The paper pattern for the CAT exam has changed several times. For the last 2 years, the pattern has remained the same with respect to the total marks and no. of sections. Here is a detailed pattern of exam –

Total Questions in CAT Exam- 100
Total Marks- 300
Total sections- 3
Total duration- 180 minutes
.Negative Marking – 1 for Each Incorrect Attempt

CAT Exam Registration

In order to register for the CAT exam, a candidate can only register through online mode. The application form is released by the conducting IIM on the official CAT website and applicants are required to fill out the small print . The CAT 2020 registration is predicted to start out from August 1st week and can continue till September last week.

It is important for the candidates to be careful while filling in the details as any unauthorised filling ups can later result in the cancellation of the complete application. A correction window will also be available later.
