The Coronavirus restrictions has hit musicians hard and Elina Siirala, frontwoman of Angel Nation and Leaves' Eyes reveals how she used the time in creating new music and videos.

Music concerts have come to a standstill across the globe and musicians are feeling the pinch in their pockets as revenues drop and the thrill of performing live in front of an audience has diminished. Musicians are finding new ways to reach out to their fans and have gone online performing gigs and keeping in touch with the scene.
Luckily, Elina Siirala, frontwoman of the bands Angel Nation and Leaves’ Eyes revealed that she’s one among the fortunate ones to not be hit hard by the Covid-19 lockdowns and used the time to hit the studio, record new music and shoot videos.
Speaking exclusively to The News Pit, Elina revealed, ‘’Luckily, Covid-19 restrictions didn’t affect us too much as we were in the studio when the lockdowns started,” and continued, ‘’So it gave us this unique opportunity to stay together for a long time and finish the album recordings.’’
Though the lockdowns affected their schedule and their release timing, it went smooth in the end as they managed to get both new tracks and videos along. ‘’Of course the schedule was affected afterwards but we managed to film all the music videos and the album was released only a couple of months later than planned.’’

Touring Has Hit A Gridlock, Says Elina
A band thrives on hitting the stage and sending out their energy but the restrictions in place has made live shows come to a screeching halt. When asked if she misses performing on stage with her bands Angel Nation and Leaves’ Eyes, Elina said she misses it almost every single day.
‘’For sure I miss hitting the stage! It’s a very strange feeling that something so normal as having a concert is now a compete rarity. It has been the most strange year and I hope we will be able to play the songs live soon,’’ she said.
However, she stated that it’s something we have to learn to live with at the moment and thankfully she was able to keep herself busy by teaching music to her students.
‘’Biggest effect it has of course on tours and concerts which were all cancelled or postponed,’’ she continued, ‘’It’s something we just have to live with at the moment and hopefully things will get better soon. Meanwhile I was lucky to be able to continue teaching.’’
Teaching Music Is Challenging During Covid-19 Times
While several musicians took to taking lessons online, Elina Siirala continued teaching in person, but the ball game is different with the restrictions in place and the risk of contracting the virus is high.
‘’I was able to continue teaching in person,’’ she said and continued, ‘’We have strict rules in the music schools; there is plexiglass and we maintain distance from each other.’’
Thankfully, she said the classes have gone smooth but the risk still remains and there’s uncertainty all over. ‘’So far it has worked quite well. The challenge is that people might get exposed to the virus and they have to stay in quarantine unable to come to lessons.’’
I Fell In Love With Metal And Rock Music
Elina revealed that right from her younger days, she was fascinated with metal and rock music and pursued her interests as the music gave her a sense of freedom and power.
‘’Metal and Rock were the ones that I really fell in love with while studying in London,’’ she said, ‘’I loved the power in the music and the sense of freedom it gave me on stage when performing. And of course it led to me founding Angel Nation and then later on joining Leaves’ Eyes, so it has brought me a lot of great things in life.’’
‘’I’m inspired by so many different bands and music so that’s difficult to say. As an example in the past when I was writing songs, I got some inspiration from Foo Fighters, Survivor and even classical music,’’ she said.

As the Coronavirus pandemic has ravaged world economies, health, jobs and created uncertainty among people, Elina sends a message to her fans to stay safe, healthy and positive during these tough times as there are brighter and better days ahead of us.
‘’I hope the new Leaves’ Eyes album ‘The Last Viking’ will bring some joy to people during this difficult time! We are all struggling in our own way right now but there will be better times ahead and I can’t wait to see everyone on tour again!
