French airstrikes in Mali kill 50 jihadists, damage 30 motorcycles used by them and forces confiscate their arms and ammunition.

French airstrikes kill 50 Islamic militants in Mali.

The Emmanuel Macron led French government went on an offensive against jihadists in Mali launching airstrikes that killed more than 50 Al-Qaeda linked terrorists.

The airstrikes took place near the borders of Burkina Faso and Niger, where their government is struggling to rout out the jihadist menace and French Defence Minister Florence Parly said the Macron administration launched the attack after getting an approval from the members of Mali’s transitional government.

“On October 30 in Mali, the Barkhane force conducted an operation that neutralised more than 50 jihadists and confiscated arms and material,” Parly said, referring to the French-led anti-jihadist Operation Barkhane.

Parly confirmed apart from killing jihadists and confiscating their arms and weapons, the French forces also destroyed around 30 motorcycles used by the terrorists.

The jihadists hid under trees to avoid surveillance and that is when the French forces sent two mirage jets and a drone to launch missiles leading to “neutralisation” of the terrorists, Parly said in a statement.

French Defence Minister Florence Parly closely monitored the attack against Islamic insurgency in Mali.

Niger President Mahamadou Issoufou, had earlier met Florence Parly before heading to Bamako, and she said the operation was launched after a French drone detected a “very large” motorcycle caravan in the “three borders” area of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger.

Parly said the attack was a “significant blow” to the Ansarul Islam organisation that is closely linked to Al-Qaeda via the GSIM alliance led by Lyad Ag Ghaly.

Brutal Islamic insurgency has broken out in Mali since a few years and the government was struggling to to contain their menace that’s spread across the region since 2012.

The jihadist insurgency in the region has cost thousands of innocent lives and hundreds forced to leave their homes in fear of being killed.

Florence Parly said Mali’s new interim government, which is appointed to rule for 18 months before the elections, is willing to join hands with France to rout out terrorists in their region.

The French attack against Islamic insurgency begins after three terrorists attacks in France took place in just a span of a week. Tensions are high in France and Emmanuel Macron has come out strongly against violence and terror.
