Models who Posed in Dubai Balcony to Not Face Jail Term, will Be Deported From UAE

The dozen girls who posed on the balcony in Dubai's upscale Marina will not face jail term but would be deported from the UAE.

A dozen women posed without clothes at a balcony in Dubai's prime locality Marina.

Police arrested a group of women who posed naked on a balcony in full public view in Dubai’s upscale locality Marina, and the pictures went viral on social media in no time, as the images show more than a dozen naked women flaunting their bodies to the camera.

The models along with the male photographer were held in police custody for displaying vulgarity and despite UAE being a liberal country, is still governed legally by Islamic law and public nudity is a violation in the country that carries a penalty of up to six months in prison and a 5,000 dirham ($1,368) fine.

Models to be Deported From UAE

Since the stunt caught the attention of the international news and became a hot topic in social media circles, Dubai authorities in a rare decision, decided not to prosecute the women and ordered deportation of all the accused.

Cases of nudity and vulgarity usually goes on trail in Dubai and this comes off as a historical one off judgement laid out by the modern-yet-conservative country. Orders of swift deportation is something of a rarity in Dubai, as the legal code in the country doesn’t allow perpetrators to escape much ahead in time without facing a trail.

Dubai’s Attorney General Essam Issa al-Humaida announced that all the women who posed in the balcony and the photographer, would be deported to their home countries and did not elaborate further on the date and time of deportation.

”The public prosecutor ordered the deportation of the accused for their behavior contrary to public morals,” al-Humaidan said in a statement. Most of the women who posed nude in broad daylight and full public display in the balcony are mostly from Russia and Ukraine.

The nude photoshoot scandal came just days before Ramadan, which is considered the holiest month of the year for Muslims and also Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, landed in nearby Doha, Qatar, for an official state visit at the same time.

Over the years, a large number of tourists and expats from Russia and Ukraine have made Dubai their top holiday destination promoting the city’s glitz, glamour and pomp through their Instagram handles posing at luxury hotels, malls, deserts and various other sought-after spots in Dubai.
