Krishna Janmashtami is one among the foremost celebrated festival of India. Everywhere within the country, it’s celebrated not just as a festival, it is widely celebrated by people with sheer excitement and delight. This festival is known as the occasion of the birth of Sri Krishna.

Janmashtami, the birthday of Lord Krishna is celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm in India within the month of July or August. This religious festival is celebrated on the Ashtami of Krishna Paksh or the 8th day of the dark fortnight within the month of Bhadon, consistent with the Hindu calendar.

As Janmashtami is the most devoted festival, Sri Krishna is one of the foremost powerful human incarnations of Lord Vishnu and one among the foremost devoted God. He was born around 5,200 years ago in Mathura. The only objective of Sri Krishna’s birth was to free the world from the evilness of demons.

The role played by Sri Krishna in Mahabharata is responsible to propagate the idea of bhakti and good karma which are narrated deeply within the Bhagwat Geeta.

Sri Krishna was born in a prison within the custody of Kansa. His father Vasudev, immediately thought of his friend Nand and decided to hand over his child to save Krishna from the clutches of Kansa.

Krishna grew up in Gokul and eventually killed his uncle, King Kansa. The particular celebration of Janmashtami takes place during the midnight as Sri Krishna is believed to be born on a dark, stormy and windy night to finish the rule and violence of his uncle, Kansa.

Everywhere in India, people on Janmashtami celebrate it’s value with devotion by playing divine songs and dances, pujas, arti, blowing of the Conch and rocking the cradle of baby Sri Krishna.

One can experience a humongous celebration in Vrindavan, Mathura (where Sri Krishna was born). On this day, Temples and houses are wonderfully decorated and illuminated. Night long prayers are offered and mantras are sung within the temples.
