After announcing salary cuts to its existing workforce, Air India plans to hire new employees, causing an uproar internally.

A new job advertisement by Air India has shocked its existing workforce. While Air India employees are opposing the National Career Unpaid Leave (LWP) policy on one hand, Air India has advertised the recruitment of new people.

Air India Express has put out an advertisement for a job in the Department of Finance and Medical Services. The general principle is that if a company hires employees and is sending them on long leave without pay, it does not appoint new personnel.

In the advertisement, Air India Express has invited applications from Indian citizens for positions on a fixed-term contract basis. There are vacancies in two departments (as per advertisement suggest), one for the Medical services and another for Finance service.

The advertisement attract people for positions in the Medical Services Department including Chief Medical Officer and Senior Assistant, Medical.

Post availability in Finance Department:

The posts for recruitment in Finance Department include Deputy Head of Finance Department, Manager-Finance and Deputy Manager-Finance. Interested and eligible candidates have been asked to submit their applications within 15 days of the advertisement.

This recruitment is further adding to the displeasure of Air India employees, as all the employees from pilots to service engineers are protesting against the pay cuts and leave without pay in Air India.

The pilots have questioned the claim, saying that it is a devious plan to ensure a nominal pay cut for senior AI officers. Air India said in a tweet that no deduction has been made in the basic pay, DA and HRA of employees of any category. The rationalization of allowances had to be implemented due to the airline’s difficult financial situation, which was extended for Covid-19.

The job advertisement is a beginning of a cold war between Air India and it’s employees, as the pandemic has affected the country politically, socially and economically and disturbed all aspects of the society. Many companies are struggling to balance their equation or those who are not able to cope up, are on the verge of shutting down. Government run Air India is also on the path of privatization.
