Coronavirus Update: Researchers at the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute headed by Sumi Chanda, PhD professor who is a nature study author led by a global team of scientists have recently identified that there are around 2 drugs which are existing that could stop the facsimile of SARS-COV-2 virus, due to which it causes COVID-19.

Scientists during their research found that they have the world’s largest collection of known drugs which can block the facsimile of SARS-COV-2 virus, due to which it causes COVID-19.

They further reported that while they were doing tests in their laboratory, it was confirmed that the replicas of the drug have 100 molecules with confirmed antiviral activity. out of these 100 molecules, 2 molecules are directly synergistically with remdesivir which is one of the care treatments for COVID-19.

“Remedesivir has proven successful medicine to treat COVID-19 patients however it is not suitable for everyone, that is not good enough,” says Chanda, director of the Immunity and Pathogenesis Program at Sanford Burnham Prebys and senior author of the study. He added, “as the virus is increasing at the rapid speed worldwide, urgently it requires one of the effective, affordable and readily available drugs that can supplement the use of remedisivir and even helps to give the first sign of infection on an outpatient basis”.

Through their extensive test, they evaluate the drugs on human lung biopsies which were infected by the virus. Through the response of dose, they also evaluated the relationship between the drugs and antiviral activity.

1). They further said,” out of these 21 drugs, 13 have already been entered for clinical trials and proven potential and safe for COVID-19 patients.
2). Chloroquine derivative, Hafangchin A, an antimalarial drug has reached for phase-3 clinical trials.
3). Astemizole, Clofazamine and Remdesivir have received authorization for emergency use of COVID-19.

“The researchers are currently testing on all 21 compounds in small animal models and “mini lungs” that mimic human tissue. Out of these 21 compounds, Clofazimine, Hangfangchin A, Aplimod and ONO 5334 represent the best drugs for COVID-19.
