On Thursday, some residents reported an alarming rise in coughs and breathing difficulties. Hospitals Beds Are Full With Patients Suffering From Respiratory Issues

As the city grapples with these severe environmental crisis. People residing in Delhi are left pleading for urgent solutions for an easy breathing. Due to a dense layer of toxic smog covered Delhi, several cities surrounding the National Capital Region on Thursday. As per several reports total of 300 flights to and from New Delhi were delayed due to thick smog. Due to a steep rise in the air pollution levels the pollution levels are categorized in the “severe” category. The city scored severe category for the second consecutive day of the season, with a score of 430 on an index of air quality.

Delhi’s Air Quality Index Lead To The Re-scheduling Of Flight Timings

Due to this heavy smog, disrupting of flight operations and train schedules were seen. Moreover several residents have complained of cough and breathing issues. Due to this severe air pollution hospitals see a spike in steady rise of patients reporting air pollution-related health issues. Some of the important spots in the city scored a high amount of AQI index. The air pollution monitoring station at Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 470. Whereas Ashok Vihar registered at 469, while at ITO it was 417 and Rohini at 451.

Due to the rise of thickness of smog in the air, residents are facing severe issues with their daily chores. When asked to one resident about the rising air pollution levels he told, “The pollution has increased. We are facing breathing problems and irritation in the eyes. Earlier, we used to go running, but we are not even able to do that now.”

Delhi’s Thick Smoke Suppresses Lahore’s Smog

Whereas, as per several reports the national capital of India, Delhi surpassed, Pakistan’s, Lahore to become the world’s most polluted city. According to Swiss group IQ Air’s live rankings, have exceeded 1,000. Thus making Delhi in the category of “hazardous” group.

The airlines have currently advised to its passengers that before boarding flights passengers should contact their respective airlines for “updated flight information.” Also IndiGo took to its X account and wrote “This morning, winter fog may impact flights to/from #Amritsar, #Varanasi & #Delhi. Do keep a tab on your flight status https://bit.ly/31paVKQ before heading to the airport. Also, please allow additional travel time as road traffic may move slower than usual due to low visibility.”

Whereas if the city’s air quality remains unstable in the severe category. Then, authorities might impose restrictions under the third stage of the GRAP. This includes a ban on construction and demolition activities and plying of BS-lll petrol and BS-IV diesel light motor vehicles.
