Farmers Protest Got Suspended At Shambhu
On Friday, Haryana security forces used teargas shells to disperse farmers protesting near the multi-layered barricades at Shambhu, located at the Punjab-Haryana border. This farmers protest was part of a “March towards Delhi.” The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) decided to call back the group of 101 farmers. This decision was taken after a few farmers were injured in a teargas shelling by Haryana Police.
KMM leader Sarwan Singh Pandher confirmed the decision to halt the farmers protest after the confrontation with Haryana Police. He mentioned that six farmers were hurt by the smoke from teargas canisters. “After an hour, the farmer unions will hold a meeting and address the press to announce the next steps of the march,” said Pandher.
Haryana security personnel on Friday used teargas shells for dispersing farmers who were protesting near the multi-layered barricades at Shambhu, located on the Punjab and Haryana border. Multiple rounds of teargas were fired at a group of 101 farmers who had begun their march towards Delhi, compelling them to retreat.

Despite the use of force, some farmers tried to push forward, even attempting to remove iron nails and barbed wire from the road. They covered their faces with wet jute bags to shield themselves from the teargas. As per the protesters, some farmers were seen sustaining injuries and were transported to a hospital.
The Haryana Police had warned the farmers not to proceed. They have also done citing prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). This order restricts the assembly of five or more people. Soon after, the farmers were informed that they did not have the required permission to continue their march. As a result, the Ambala district administration imposed Section 163 of BNSS, forbidding the gathering of protestors.
Moreover in response to the escalating situation. The Haryana government imposed a mobile internet shutdown in 11 villages across Ambala district from December 6 to 9. Despite all of this the farmers are marching for their demand. The farmers are demanding for a legal guarantee of the minimum support price (MSP) for crops from the central government.
